The cell phone, an object that we are extremely dependent on in every day life. An object that even our parents cannot imagine how life without it was so easily carried out. My dad said "it was much harder to keep up with people, in order to call anyone we had to use pay phones". Life as we know it has become much more efficient, therefore necessary for a person to be contacted whenever need be.
The cellular device has evolved over time to become better equip for use. What started out as a big clunky piece of plastic, has become a small revolutionary object that can fit in your pocket. The cell phone started out as an object strictly pertaining to business, and has become an object of entertainment, and so much more.
The design aspect of a cell phone pertains to which type of phone your looking at, the cell phone has become such a mass produced item that it can come in a very wide range of designs, such as these two.

Every phone has a few things in common with its design, all cell phones are made in a way that they can be hand held and portable, easy to talk into to and call others. They are now made with texting capabilities such as key boards and touch screens. Most are made small enough to fit in a pocket and with technology today this is made possible.

The implications of colonial expansion on architecture and design is through the different styles. Such as Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance, and modern, all of these styles plus many more demonstrate colonial expansion throughout different countries because of their distinct features that set them apart from one another. By these styles we are able to see the trends and what was looked highly upon during different time periods of different cultures and what was spread beyond those cultures. In many ways we can tell of what government had control of the different parts of the world through the architecture alone. By the trends of different societies spread to the territories under their control. Such as saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, this cathedral carried on the Gothic style from Rome.
Though the United States has borrowed a lot of styles from different countries and incorporated them into what we know as ours we also have created our own styles and technologies along the way. For example the skyscraper was first created by the United states,it was called "The Home Insurance Building" in Chicago, Illinois. This building influenced other building to be built more in height than width to demonstrate power and started a trend in not only the United States but also in countries all over the world, such as Taiwan. This skyscraper not only demonstrates power but also marks the capital.

1.Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
2.Acropolis, Pantheon, Greece
3.The coliseum, Rome
4.Cologne Cathedral, Gothic Era
5.The Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio, Rome

Throughout the centuries architectural styles and trends have changed but in many ways hold true through the connections between them. The Pyramids of Giza demonstrate power and point towards the sky in efforts to point towards the power. The Acropolis is very symmetrical and sits at an angle to make it appear larger, the coliseum is very circular and takes up a large area of the landscape. The cologne cathedral take height to new heights, and The Tempietto of San Pietro shows the power of a dome. All of these historical architectural buildings are brought together in the way they demonstrate power, and spirituality through their extreme features in mass and great heights.
